Thank you all for your opinions and I appreciate them all. I think you are all very correct when it comes to this topic... I agree that society should not be the be-all-and-end-all of our decisions. Society will always have something to say and it will be about anything not just a name for that matter, it is how you dress, act, look, your weight and size...it will always be hard but we learn to get by it. I love the name Ziva, yes I love NCIS, but it is also my heritage and that being my main reason...I decided to pick that name because it has a beautiful meaning (magnificent rose garden), and since Ziva means splendor I translated that to its meaning which is magnificent. So now it makes sense lol. Someone on another site I posted this on suggested to me Vesper Rose... I thought it was lovely, in a dark and mysterious way. But I love the name I picked out. Maybe if I have 2 girls it may come in handy lol.
So I think I will stick with Ziva... thank you all soooooo much!

My younger daughter's name is Brynne. People constantly mispronounced her name, I heard things like "brine", she was constantly being called Brian or Brianna - A lot of people don't bother to read it, if they do they don't care if they say it right or the figure if it's close enough it's fine, like I should have named her what they thought her name should be.
Give your son or daughter a name that means something to you - whether it's Anne or Ziva there will be someone who has something to say about it. Ignore them. Your child's name should be chosen with love and care and she (or he) should know that they were named with love.
(and before you ask... it's Brynne, like Lynne but with a "Br")

You should name your child Ziva Shoshanah Carmelina it's not up to society to tell you what you name your child, and there is nothing wrong with the name Ziva it's a beautifull name and i can't believe people would pronounce it wrong how can you in godsname pronounce it wrong.lol.So in other words you should name your child what you want and feels right for you.Ichoose no1

My real name is Tamsin and a lot of people call me Tam, Tammy, Tasmin, Yasmin, Tansim ... it's endless...and what makes it worse is that I'm Anglo-Mauritian and am fair skinned so even though I tell people that my mother is from Mauritius they are confused that I have such an unusual name ... my mother is called Timee Brenda and I am certain that if she had been in my school she would have been called TB all the time and we all know what TB stands for...
Anyway...
Despite cultural influences etc... which by the way you shouldn't be driven by... so you arent wrong in not wanting to be influenced by it...
It's none of their business what you call your child - and it's ultimately up to you - there is absolutely nothing wrong with the name Ziva in fact I think it is a good conversation starter...
I know a kid called Sojourner and another called Sal or Lome depending on who you are(Otherwise known as Salome)

Should you let society influence what we name our children?
Our world right now, in the U.S and Canada, is very racially diverse. Now, we here in Canada have the majority of Chinese, Black and Middle East and East Indian. We are in the minority as Canadian Caucasians and society has become very judgemental on what is not considered 'normal'. I have noticed a great deal here, that the cultures have stuck together almost like a clique in high school because they are familiar with each other and their cultural expectations and behaviour. They are mostly teased and tormented because of such things and now so in society because of what they are named...because here what some of our society considers 'abnormal' is now grounds for our children to be teased and tormented. I had a great deal of East Indian friends at my school and they had very unique names such as Sabiha, Raisha, Soraya, Tasneem, Khadija and so on.....
and now I have been deciding on names for my children because as I will announce I am going through with my IUI treatment and will have a baby within a year...and one of the names I chose was Ziva Shoshanah Carmelina and I was told drop "Ziva' because she will be teased and she will be telling people her whole life how to pronounce it properly and dodging teasing and tormenting remarks.
I told this person society will have to get used to it and I will not let society dictate to me what to name my children. All I want is a nice Jewish name for my child. Because well 1, I am Jewish. Now am I wrong for doing so, or should I stick with it,....?
I need your votes and opinions.
1. Ziva Shoshanah Carmelina or 2. Shoshanah Carmelina
Let me know what you think....

Well, I must be getting old. I only know (and like!) The Rasmus and The Killers, and I have heard of Snow Patrol, but I can not think of any songs right now. I like Bruce Springsteen...

I usually make a new banner closer to a new season. And knowing they'll be taking new pics for season 11, I know the banner will be good.

Love the upgrade - it takes getting used to though - I already upgraded my own site and it's really useful and helpful!
