interesting question jessica - I'd say when he's interrogating someone and he knows the person's lying - and all he's looking for is one teeny mistake, his voice takes on a velvety tone - smooth...which, in a way, is very similar to when he's on a one to one with Abs..soft and smooth.

thank you all for pics and videos. It's incredible how he looks older with this hair. I found today these pics that are new to me. they are from when MH made the hero rescuing kids from a car...something like that (sorry for not providing clickable thumbnails, internet is not behaving and I get many error messages, sorry for full size pics)

The thing that stands out for me with Gibbs is quiet. Unless he's really laying into someone, his voice is almost always quiet.

Yes. And an interesting contrast with Gibbs compared to Mark's other roles is that I would consider Gibbs the quietest-speaking of all of them. His voice really changes.
The best illustration I can think of is first of all, watch his body language between Gibbs and Jack McNeil. There's a relaxed, outgoing posture to Jack and a more intense, held in posture to Gibbs. And especially when it's a scene where he's more watching than actually doing anything, for example the Tony monologue in jail on Frame-Up. He's there, but it's a very quiet presence.
Now translate that contrast to voice. Think an average outgoing character like Ducky as the Jack position and that's the difference to Gibbs.

In this pic above - I'm reminded (now I'm showing my age here!! LOL)...but I see Cesar Romero...with a smidge of George Hamilton too...and the hair...I am *so, SO* glad Gibbs doesn't wear his like that...high and tight is MUCH better...(saying that, that's how my Dad used to wear his hair *as in the pic*..and has done since he was 21...talk about stuck in a time warp!! LOL)

Look a computer gadget that even Gibbs would find useful (if he had a proper mug).

Gibbs and a *proper* coffee mug?? Man - that's Astaire without Rogers, Laurel without Hardy, Dick Dastardly without Muttley...LOL...okay - yes, we've seen him with *mugs*...but the paper cup is like the holy grail!!! Besides, d'ya think he'd be able to figure out how to boot up the doodah and get it working anyway?? LOL...
