Okay, the assignment was to compare or contrast two people, places, or things. I contrasted Gibbs and Tony, and posted that fact in the patheticness thread and people wanted me to post it. So here it is:
Gibbs and Tony are both Special Agents who work at NCIS - Naval Criminal Investigative Service. After working under Gibbs for two and a half years, one might think that Tony would be a little bit more like his boss. But they are still altogether different in their physical appearances, actions, and mindsets.
They look nothing alike. Gibbs has gray hair and piercing blue eyes, which can be very intimidating. Tony on the other hand has dark brown hair and green eyes, which are mostly used to flirt. Gibbs doesn’t look very much older than Tony, although he has at least ten years on the younger man. Gibbs is two inches shorter than his subordinate, who stands at 6’2”, but he is still overwhelming. Both are physically strong, as they work out, but Gibbs beats Tony when they practice boxing. Gibbs rarely smiles, in contrast to Tony’s trademark grin that makes the ladies go weak at the knees.
They have different methods of doing things. Gibbs is the one that can intimidate a confession out a suspect, but Tony can be tough when he needs to be. Gibbs’ gruff, straight-to-the-point manner of asking questions usually gets him the information he needs. Tony, on the other hand, usually conducts his interviews in such a way as to get info and the phone number of the woman he is questioning. Gibbs has had much more experience than Tony, and knows how to work the systems to get what he wants. Gibbs always seems to be one step ahead of everybody. For example, Tony will figure something out and run in to tell his boss, only to find out that Gibbs already knew.
While Gibbs is much more mature and only flirts occasionally, Tony has the mindset of a teenager, and is your typical skirt-chaser. Gibbs always gets the job done without playing around, unlike Tony, who makes time for harassing the new agent on the team, and teasing or flirting with his female team member, Kate. Gibbs’ ideal “free time” after work would be working on his boat in his basement. Conversely, Tony would rather be on a date with a cute blonde. Gibbs is wonderful with children, although he doesn’t have any of his own, and hates to see them get hurt, as opposed to Tony, who just can’t seem to connect with them at all.
Most people become more and more like the people they are around. This is not the case with Gibbs and Tony. Although Gibbs has rubbed off on Tony somewhat, Tony will always remain slightly juvenile. Likewise, Tony has uncovered a little of Gibbs’ more playful side, but Gibbs will never be the prankster and skirt-chaser that is Tony.
