Winnie is actually named after a real bear. Rather than waste time with an explanation since I'm at work and the boss is six feet away, here's a link. www.pooh-corner.org/winnie.shtml

Found a nice shot in the media section of datafeed: Also hadn't seen this one before: I think we should call the thread Proby's Procrasting Princesses. I didn't realise Swans said "pooh"....the thot plickens. I've made a new section in the 'just the facts' thread to cover McGee's books and put in stuff clothing and being left handed.

I'm sorry for totally going off at a tangent here (we may possibly NEVER discover why I apologise every time I post...), but well anyway I was just checking my Yahoo! account and I got terribly giddy for two reasons:
1. Mr M posted on the Yahoo! group and I found the whole fact an email from him being in my inbox highly thrilling. 2. I realised I was sad enough to have recognised his username.
Those of you who've been on the group for a while - you get over this hysteria stage, though, right??
Ozgeek, am totally LOVING the McGee factoids page. I can't believe how much hard work and research you've put into it, it's just such an obvious labour of love. If I owned a hat, I would indeed take it off to you.
(has anyone made a decision re the next thread name yet??)

We should mention for those of you not on the yahoo site: movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/Sean_Murray_Fanclub/messagesthat SM said he has done two commentaries for the season 4 dvd sets. Note: not the season 3s. I am now going to start a campign of innundating cbs with requests to put special features on all regions. I think this is the correct link to use: www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.shtmlThanks for the comments on the McGee facts. I keep thinking of little things and adding them in. Like that he is the kind of guest who brings wine and desert (boxed in) - will do so soon. It's important for clone owners to know what to expect when we go out.

Okay, someone who knows more about these things please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I thought that the reason for regions other than Region 1 not having the special features were technical, that is, not enough room on the DVD's?

What, like they use different DVDs here? That doesn't make sense (mind you, that's not criticizing you, I'm just saying I find that hard to believe). There is no technical/hardware difference between different region DVDs. They only introduced the region system after a while for pressure from the movie studios who wanted to control marketing (i.e. we'll release it in country A on this date and country B on this date). There are DVD sets that you can buy here (my example being Germany) that have special features. I don't see how that could be a space issue. I'd assume it's much more a copyright thing. Maybe they just tell that space thing to keep fans from complaining?

The difference is the data formatting - NTSC vs PAL. We in Australia use the PAL system so each episode takes up more space on a dvd than the same epsiode burnt in NTSC format- we get better resolution but the NTSC gives lower flicker rate (60Hz as opposed to 50Hz).
So four PAL epsiodes fit neatly on one dvd, 24 epsiodes - six discs. If I shout them the 25c, could they burn ANOTHER disc with the special features on it? OK cramming another disc into the box maybe hard - you could possibly nail it to the outside...Or hey, another dollar and they could give me a second box with special features. It's not rocket science, and believe me, I know.
What I suggested to CBS months ago was to allow IP addresses outside the US to download the special features off their site for a small charge AFTER the US release. They already have the software to check IPs so only people inside the US can view and download, it's only a NOT in the code. People are going to download them anyway after the US release and the hard working artistic folk deserve some payment.
Yes, I know you can get proxy IPs and offshore credit card companies who have sprung up but I'm talking LEGAL.
My other option was to offsell to the Aussie distributor here - channel 10, who is afilliated with BigpondMovies which distribute TV shows. You can get season 9 stargate, for example at about $4 an epsiode. I suggested this to both cbs and channel 10.
The point is, it is illegal to 'encourage piracy' and if this doesn't encourage it, I don't know what does. I looked up our local copyright lasw last night and we are still allowed to buy multi-region players so long as they cannot burn discs - which would allow us to change region coding. Therefore a lot of the new HDD players are region locked (yes, you can unlock them). We can buy disc from OS but not onsell, so shops can't sell dvds from outside our region.
The UK looks stricter than us - it looks like they region lock all their players but I could be wrong.
Imagine the fuss if JKR released the last Harry Potter book with an epilogue only available in the UK edition - same thing, different technology.

Hmmm, didn't know that about PAL/NTSC being different in how much space they take up. Still, they could figure this out if they wanted to.

Sorry to interrupt - but anyway, I've discovered how to make icons. Not very well, like, but anyway. I've only made one McGee one, most of mine are Ducky/Illya ones so far! But this is it: Don't worry, I've also posted it in the Evidence Locker bit, so I'm totally keeping the rules. Just couldn't resist making it - and sharing!!
