The following was taken from the Virgin Holidays essentials guide I received with plane tickets etc, it's about camera film, it's kind of long winded so bear with me ;D, i tried to scan it but you couldn't make any of it out so entering it by hand.
The new aviation security act requires that all checked baggage at us airports be screened or cleared by explosive detection system(eds) or trace detection(etd) (first thought of trace evidence Ncis ;D). Eds is an advanced system which uses catscan technology to xray bags which can damage undeveloped film, please be aware the equipment used for the above will damage you film.
You should remove all undeveloped film from your checked bags and place it in carry on bags.
At the security point remove the following type of film from your carry on bags and ask for a hand inspection (I can imagine some poor person taking this the wrong way and asking to see someones hands ;D )
film with an asa/iso 800 or higher (dinny ask i dunno ;D just copying fi a book ;D)
highly sensitive xray or scientific films
film of any speed, which is subjected to xray surveillance more than 5 times(the effect of xray screening is cumulative)
film that is or will be underexposed
sheet film
large format film
medical film
scientific film
motion picture film (gonny sneak out wi new season 5 eps in your bag? now u know u cant ;D)
pro grade film
you may request a hand inspection of any undeveloped film, The xray machine at the passenger security checkpoint will affect undeveloped film under asa/iso 800. However multiple xray inspections (5 times or more) of the same roll of film may cause damage. The machines used to screen checked bags or carry on bags will no affect digi camera images (phew says she ;D) or film that has awready been processed, slides photy compact discs or piccy discs.
If you plan that hand inspection of ur film consider carrying it in clear canisters or taking it out of solid coloured canisters and putting into a clear pastic bag to speed up the screening process, if u plan to hand carry undeveloped film on a plane at an international airport contact security office at that airport and ask for a manual inspection (that sounds good, so longs its a good looking man ;D) Consider having ur exposed film processed locally b4 passing thru security on ur way home.
your luggage may be opened by airport security officials for screening purposes (better not take any of my hinky or should that be kinky gear then ;D), us immigration will break locks on suitcases if they are unable to open them and are entitled to do so.
man my arms are sore thank heavens thats it all ;D
