Usually, yes. Especially for people traveling a great distance, such from Europe (and yes, the UK is part of Europe) or Australia. And roommates really cut the hotel costs. One good thing about this year's venue is that there are refrigerators in the rooms; that will help cut down food expenses, especially since there isn't really anything cheap nearby, and here in the US, "cheap" equals "not very nutritious fast foods."
(One year at Media*West, back in the '80s, there were so many of us in a 2-bedroom suite that it worked out to $11/night for each of us. Don't wanna think about how many fire and safety laws we violated that weekend!)

I had no say in the matter and was not very happy... two to a bed, people on the floor.... I don't usually have roommates anymore, despite the cost, unless I really know them well and we get along. My last roomate was my brother and I wanted to kill him. I'm glad we have fridge's... we'll need to make a grocery run. ::hopeful look in TNG's direction::

So the airfaire is the most expensive huh? lol! I flew to Atlanta, Georgia for Dragon Con Sci Fi Convention in September 2006 from the UK...the airfare alone was over £600 - and that was after shopping around for nearly a month!!! And that was only to the east coast...but we had a great reduction on the room rates for the three day event...every hotel sold out to attendees...

jessica, virgin atlantic flights from heathrow leaving on dates i have marked out if i go,
leave on 7th sept home on 21st sept are 597 quid,
not sure where you live but flying from edinburgh on sat 6th sept(my local airport) to london heathrow and back to edinburgh on 22nd sept on bmi is nearly 100 quid
then there is hotel cost on top of all that for 4 days for ff in the hotel where its being held if i mind right was nearly $700 but thats taxes etc inc as well, and if like me hoping to get for 2 weeks might talk another $1000-1500
just a rough guesstimate ;D means megabucks needed ;D ;D
oh and i read in todays daily mail that you now have to register with usa authorities 72 hours before you fly, a supposed security thingy.
hope this helps.

It's too bad they don't hold a similar thing in Europe for those of us who can never hope to travel to the US...even a convention would be heaven ;D

Oh my gosh... it looks like so much fun. If only I had that much money. I feel bad for you people in Europe. It costs so much to travel just across America, at least, with my salary it does.

Airfare is rising daily. Make your reservations fast, because they're only going to get higher... I think. I'm lucky to get a fare of $406, it's already up 20 dollars.

They seem to change daily from the UK. Air New Zealand had the best offer a day or so ago, now Air France has. Even if you book now, will they be able to add a surcharge by the time September comes? I'd like an FF agenda to see what is happening on the Sunday and if the invite for the Saturday set visit is on this year.

Ah well, there's always next year...but funds just will not allow me to get to LA this year...~sob, sniffle~...
