How great, they're quoting UnSEALed in this one. I love it when they go back to past episodes! ;D I'll have to dig out Season One and watch that one today! It was great - one of the McGee episodes before McGee was part of the team. Tony also mentioned The Fugitive during Season 4 - was is Escaped?

Tony also mentioned The Fugitive during Season 4 - was is Escaped? We've been avoiding mentioning that for days! You just had to come to it on your own, didn't you? ;D But on to tonight's ep - I just want to see what happens with Ziva and the killer Marinebot. The preview led me to believe it will go something like, "Oooh, shove me again. Are you taking my handcuffs? Tell me what a bad, bad girl I've been..."

Why do I have the feeling that there's going to be sheepfic based on this episode? (And why would I not be at all surprised if it's posted sometime between midnight and 2 a.m.?)

And now that the possibility has been put out there, and expectations have been raised, it would just be cruel not to write it, Sheep.

Then call me cruel. I've got finals in two weeks, unless someone wants to take the gross exam for me...of course, "studying" is never something I enjoy, so maybe a fic in the name of procrastination.
But as for the ep...can we keep Tony on drugs for a while? Drugged!Tony! is fun. Would have been nice if they'd solved the case though.
And, unlike with Roy, I think this 'guy in the hospital' was more of a "brotherhood of warriors" thing than a giggly, girl "Does he like like me?" thing. I wouldn't find it outside the realm of possibility that Ziva had colleagues at Moussad who had been tortured and suffered PTSD.
ETA: I'm glad Abby apologized, because I thought her whole attitude was a little off with that, freaking out when Tony and McGee were hurt, but just kind of brushing off Ziva's highly visible injury (not that Ziva generally invites sympathy). It just seemed OOC, especially in light of something like the end of 'Boxed In,' when Ziva got the hug and the "I'm glad you aren't dead" - and that was before Abby even liked her.
Bonus edit because no one else has posted: Curse you people and your fic-seeking behavior!

Right, I did love the ending. I thought it was a perfectly appropriate and Gibbs-like thing to do.
However, I may still have some residual angst despite having written buckets of fiction about Requiem.
See, I would have liked the ending much much better if this episode had aired before Requiem. My second thought, after "Awwww," was "Wait a minute. He'll give away his Silver Star to a Marine he barely knows, but he can't even stinking say thank you to Tony for dragging him out of the river?" (Granted, every episode that passes post-Requiem makes it less and less likely that it will ever be acknowledged. I think the probability is hovering right around zero at this point.) But it's still, I don't know, kind of inconsistent.
And bear in mind that Gibbs keeps his medals in Tony's desk drawer. (Funny, I just watched Model Behavior yesterday.) So, sooner or later Tony will figure out what Gibbs did. I think that's gotta suck a little bit for him.
Anyway, the more I thought about it (and I totally got so distracted that I burned Mr Celestial's french toast ;D) is that I wonder if that's a peek inside Gibbs' head? When Gibbs delivered the line about putting your life in someone else's hands, I immediately thought of Tony actually performing CPR on him. But, I don't think that Gibbs would make the connection himself. And the stuff about being able to trust the guy next to you contradicts the way he went off on his own (tried to) to get Maddie at the warehouse.
So, what I'm wondering is, does Gibbs not see NCIS as being in the same league as what he did in the Marines. I mean, it's obviously not the same thing, but it's not hugely dissimilar either. I mean, here he's got this team that is almost dysfunctionally loyal to him, they place their lives in danger constantly (we all know what Kate said in Twilight), but I just don't think Gibbs sees them as being on the same level (emotionally) as the Marines he served with. Gibbs takes his team for granted sometimes - he certainly did with the whole leaving for Mexico/coming back to Mexico thing.
I guess Gibbs was telling the truth when he said he's not an ex-Marine. In a sense it's like he never left, because no experience he's had since then can measure up. And it kind of makes me wonder if joining NCIS was kind of a consolation proze for him (I'm assuming he couldn't be on active duty anymore after the first coma, I certainly got that impression).
Anyway. My bed is calling, so I will have to list all the things I loved about this episode in the morning. But I have one more question to add... did anyone see what was written on the Post It note on Tony's computer monitor? All I could catch was the word 'script.' Methinks MW forgot to take down one of his notes to himself! ;D

And bear in mind that Gibbs keeps his medals in Tony's desk drawer. Which makes little to no sense to me. Sure, his NCIS commendations, but wouldn't he have received his service medals quite a while ago? Why are those in Tony's desk? Maybe he just brought a bunch of stuff that was in his basement to work for storage because the boat was taking up too much space. McGee probably has Gibbs' winter sweaters in one of his desk drawers. Well, he's never been to war with his team. Yes, they do put their lives in danger, but it really isn't the same thing. There's a reason guys who stormed the beaches at Normandy are still having reunions. I don't claim to understand it, but I do think there is a difference on a fundamental level for the people who have experienced it. Which is not to say that it's right or wrong, just that I think you're right, it's there.

Good episode over all. Things I liked: - Tony asking McGee and then Ziva to hit him in his four-pack. Although, either he really trusts Ziva not to do it or the guy has a major death wish. - Ziva kicking ass. The girl can sure take a punch to the head. I’ve said it before. I find it really refreshing that for once there’s a cop show that has the physical character be the female of the team - The whole feeling conversation with Tony, McGee and Ziva. Loved the grammar comments by McGee and the fact that Ziva even engaged in the conversation shows how close she feels to them. - Tony on pain killers. I thought he was even cuter than usual (which is saying a lot). - Comic and movie references. - The Senators press secretary was very good as a sleaze ball and Gibbs telling him that “that’s always his first priority” was really nice. - Gibbs telling the research lady that that was him being nice.
Things I liked less: - Abby again accusing Ziva of having no feelings. You’d expect her to realize by now that that’s just hurtful and wrong. - Abby’s protective tendency leading her to hate the marine, but then having her do an about turn just because Ducky asked her to. I’d find it more convincing if she helped with a little less of a smile on her face. - I hated the earrings on Ziva in her final scene. I think they are much worse than the Sweater. Even though I guess she could use them as a lethal weapon (but this is Ziva. She could use anything as a lethal weapon so that’s no excuse).
I agree with Sheep that in this case Ziva’s reaction to the guy had less to do with attraction or romantic feelings and more to do with respect for a fellow warrior, so to speak. Not that I'm sure she wouldn't do the guy a favor or two.
Oh, and Sheep I fully understand. Good luck with finals.

I was surprised to see the medals too, especially the Purple Heart. I got the impression Gibbs kept that at home because only Jenny knew about it. Unless Tony took them while Gibbs was in Mexico, but I doubt he'd have kept them this long.
I do believe the thank you happened, but they wanted it left to our imaginations - partly because it didn't fit in with the coda they'd already done (even if it wasn't a question of time there's usually only one wrap-up scene after the case is closed and they really needed it for the time capsule) and probably partly because that sort of makes it more "profound" to not know what they said. I mean, how many other stories/shows have done that?
On another note - I really enjoyed this one. I cried with the medal at the end and I loved watching both Gibbs & Ziva's bond with the Marine. Especially Ziva cradling him and Gibbs calling him"son." And Tony on painkillers was hysterical. So was his Tommy Lee Jones impression, although I liked it better on UnSEALed. I liked that they had McGee comment on it as to why he'd do it again. Also the Ducky interaction was wonderful.
Tony had a lot of humor going tonight - that scene where Ziva pretended to punch him was great too and he just had a couple of other good lines that made me laugh. But especially when he was stoned "My fingers are fingling." And Ziva talking to Abby about why they weren't as upset was beautiful.
I was disappointed that the spoiler about the injured team members ended up being somewhat exaggerated (when you consider the context it was in, it implied it was worse) and of course that Gibbs wasn't one of the injured <g>. I also really was frustrated with Abby's attitude on this one and was happy when Ducky set her straight. And the way she came to apologize after was nice. I loved her top in that scene, incidentally - it would make a great gymnastics leotard or skating dress. My Mom and I (I borrowed hers too much so I had to get one) have white tops with gold writing like that one.
Really great episode.

I hated the earrings on Ziva in her final scene. I think they are much worse than the Sweater. Even though I guess she could use them as a lethal weapon (but this is Ziva. She could use anything as a lethal weapon so that’s no excuse). See, now I liked the earrings, but I would want them for me. It did seem odd for Ziva to be wearing them, but then again it seems odd that she'd finally be taking the time to straighten her hair everyday. Must be a sign of the new regime. Oh, and the fic is winning out. Will be posted soon.

Yay! ;D
But do you really need to straighten your hair every day for it to stay straight? Doesn't it last a while? (I really have no idea. My hair is straight to begin with and I never have the energy to do anything but let it grow and then cut it short and then let it grow again).
