Maybe they just react differently to them. Feed McGee a bag of candy, and he'll probably be normal, give them to Tony and he'll be on a sugar high. At least that's what I think would happen. Besides, a dislocated shoulder isn't usually treated with painkillers (or at least not opiates). Generally they just put some ice on it and a sling.

I haven't seen the episode yet but I've figured out from this thread that McGee had a dislocated shoulder. What was wrong with Tony?

Speaking of painkillers - McGee acted fairly normal and I would think that with a dislocated shoulder he'd have to be on some. Well, if you've ever seen the innervation of the body (and I'm talking up close and personal)...there are a lot more nerve endings in the nose than in the shoulder. And with simple dislocations, the acute pain is typically relieved once the luxation has been reduced. The lingering soreness is a result of the unaccustomed stretching of the ligaments/muscles that hold the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa, hence the sling to keep the joint immobilized until the swelling goes down in a few days. McGee would have likely been told to take Tylenol, or prescribed Tylenol-3 at the most. Or perhaps McGee decided to tough it out because he is a manly man who has no need for the painkillers of mere mortals! Hee. I'll let the McGeebles handle that.

I have huge love for this episode. You have all said it all really, not much to add. Loved McGee's comment right at the beginning in response to Gibbs' statement "escaped mental patient" - "exactly what I was thinking" ;D (Tony was being weird...).
Not sure either how Gibbs marine medals got into Tony's drawer, but I'm sure someone can write a fic about it....

This is the kind of episode that made me want to watch NCIS in the first place (that and Mark Harmon and David McCallum, but eventually there has to be something for them to do ...). I loved this one from start to finish. Everyone was at the top of their game and did a wonderful job. That said, I thought they had Abby overreacting to Tony and Tim's injuries and I was glad when she apologized to Ziva toward the end. And then there's the mystery of how Gibbs' Marine Corp. medals got into Tony's drawer..? The NCIS ones, we know how they got there, but there's no reason that I can see that he should have the service ones...not to mention that if he does have them, why weren't there more boxes in the drawer? Gibbs was presumably wearing his own medals in "One Shot, One Kill" and he had more than just a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. But since it made for a nice ending, I'll let it go...this time. Loved Gibbs and Werth in the interrogation room..from Gunny to 'dad' in just a few seconds...and were there tears in his eyes when he stood up and said "At ease, son." ? MH deserves an Emmy nomination for his work on this series. (As do the rest of the cast...they do great work.) And at the end, when Gibbs is straightening Werth's uniform. The whole super-soldier plot-line was a slightly confusing..it tooke me three viewings (such a sacrifice! ;D ) to figure out that Sutherland and her company had a program like that but that they hadn't been using the drugs on Werth. Poor Tony, I hope his nose is better by the next episode. Have we had a fugitive since "UnSealed" ? I can't remember him doing his "Tommy Lee Jones" impersonation since then. And always having Gibbs' back...stepping on Vincents ear-piece (Bluetooth, whatever it was...) after Gibbs bumped into him and knocked it to the floor. And wanting McGee to punch him in his 'six pack', but then reconsidering when Ziva said she would. McGee's question: "Ziva, did you kill Houdini?" "It is possible, I do not remember all their names." The best so far this season!

No, this was the first time we've seen "Tony Lee Jones " since UnSEALed. I'm guessing they wanted a reason to have it show up twice, so had McGee say that and we could assume it's happened on cases we haven't been privy to. (Although he did reference The Fugitive on Escaped). And yeah, I loved watching Gibbs in the Interrogation room.

nrg: you have to quote the entire thing, and then delete out the part you don't want. (As far as I know. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?) You're absolutely right celestial. I liked this episode a lot. Werth was a heck of a fighting machine. I'm not quite clear on the whole drug thing yet. Did he know about it from the start or did they do it without his knowledge first or what? Could somebody enlighten me, please? Loved Ziva's speech about him risking his life and deserving respect for that. And the 'feelings' talk with Abby, especially when she apologized to Ziva later. Season 5 truly rocks so far! ;D

I think the drug thing went something like this: Werth wanted to get into the Marines, but had some physical problem, possibly blood related that prevented this. He started taking steroids and also used masking agents so that the steroids wouldn't show up in his system. Somehow he managed to keep getting his supply in Iraq. But I don't think Karen Sutherland was giving him any drugs that he wasn't aware of. When he got to the States, he got them from Orderly Jenkins, who apparently was supplying quite a few people. I hope this helps a little.
