i have to say that the second part of Kill Ari was a big let down for me. there is just something missing, and i haven't put my finger on it yet.
i really do not like the relationship between gibbs and the new director. has nothing to do with MH or the actess, Lauren Holley. there are so many shows out there that have tension between bosses and employees, i liked it much better when gibbs was gibbs, and didn't have the added distraction. jmo.
ziva. neyh. she doesn't do anything for me either.
i have to say, that i like tonys character more than i have in shows past. MW is a great actor to make me dislike the character so much. i realize so many of you really like that character, but for me he is a total turn off. worked with too many like him before. gak. again, jmo and my reaction to the charactor. no reflection on the actor at all.
i'll have to see how the two new female characters fill out in coming epi's.

RAIN - mille grazie! You're a true star for taking the time. You had me cracking up with laughter at your comments. Fabulous, you have yourself a real talent there.

Regarding Ziva killing Ari. I'm half wondering if maybe she had orders from above to make sure that Ari wasn't brought in alive, but that she couldn't let him kill Gibbs either.

So I’m feeling a little bit of the Boxing-Day letdown now. I spent all summer wanting to see Ari get his just desserts, but now that he has, part of me is sad we’ll never see him working yet more villainy again on NCIS. I really wanted the closure regarding Kate, but now that it’s happened it means I really have to accept the character is dead and that kind of sucks:) Basically I’ve been eagerly anticipating the premiere for months and while I really wanted to see what would happen, now that it’s happened I kind of wish I could still be anticipating and don’t want it to really be over:) Just like waking up on Boxing Day and knowing it’s a whole year before Christmas comes again.
Okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest…
That music! Arrgh! I was doing fine until they just had to play that choir music again and then I was back in tears. I’m starting to think the only way to watch this episode is with mute on and reading the closed captioning, so I can actually catch all the lines I don’t hear because I’m too busy crying:) Of course, I’m also planning on trying to tape the music onto audiocassette to listen to if I can find parts without any dialogue as well, because it was just so pretty. (And NCIS does not have a soundtrack available for sale yet that I know of.)
I can honestly say I was shocked when we learned Ziva and Ari are half-siblings. I never saw that coming. Actually I was convinced that she was his girlfriend. I like the irony there – Ari’s action of killing Kate is apparently what brings his sister to work for NCIS. I think we also see why she’ll be leaving Mossad – she will not be very popular with her father/the Director when he learns about Ari’s death and real agenda. That also explains why she said it would be her head on the chopping block if Ari did end up bad. And I can’t help but wonder – will Daddy David be the team’s main nemesis on next year’s season finale? Talk about All In The Family.
I felt really bad for Ziva throughout all of this. I’ll never be able to watch those scenes on Part 1 with her adamantly sticking up for Ari the same way again. I am looking forward to seeing her as a full-time NCIS agent – I find her character really enjoyable and interesting. In fact I think she just might have bumped Tony out of third place for favorite character (behind Gibbs and Ducky). Sorry, Tony! I especially loved the exchange: T: That’s the first thing you said to me the last time we met. Z: No, actually the first thing I said was “Are you having phone sex?”
I’ve always had a lot of respect for Gibbs and his level of integrity, but I think it just got bumped up yet another notch after this. First of all, the way he was able to step back and not have to be the person who killed Ari. While part of me would have liked to have seen him have the satisfaction, it made the action feel more like justice than revenge, and kind of made up for what had always bugged me about the way he shot Ari on Reveille. I was also very touched by his remorse when he learned Ari and Ziva were half-siblings and the way he gave Ziva the little squeeze of the hand in apology. Contrary to Tony’s opinion <g>, Gibbs really is a sweetheart.
I also really liked the revelation about Gibbs’ daughter. I sure hope we hear more about that in the future. It has, however left me completely confused as to just how many times this guy has been married. 4 times with three divorces and one who passed away? Three with one ex who died? Three and all three are still alive?
The Gibbs and Kate scene in the park – WOW! Poor Gibbs. I have to admit, after that I was really worried about what would happen, especially when Gibbs said “One of us is going to die.” I knew we wouldn’t lose Gibbs – but I didn’t know what we’d be put through to challenge that assurance!
That scene between McGee, Tony, and Kate was beautiful and again had me crying. And the flashbacks at the funeral...do I really need to say it?!
All I can say regarding Ari is that he apparently has no shred of conscience, morality, compassion, or human decency. I can understand hating his father – but he apparently doesn’t care that by striking against Mossad he also has to strike against his sister – who he seemed to care about. And he’s willing to join a terrorist organization that is responsible for the death of his other sister. Plus he had me wanting to strangle him for comparing Gibbs to his father – they’re nothing alike. Makes me wonder though if should Mr. David make an appearance on the series, will Mark Harmon end up playing a dual role? I did get enjoyment out of Ari’s almost friendly conversation with Ducky regarding his car – just like I enjoyed the casual conversation he had with Gerald and Ducky on Bete Noire about Eton. In some respects he really reminds me of Herr Gutterman in the Nancy Drew book, Captive Witness. I couldn’t totally hate him – and I even felt bad for him for what his father did, although not real bad.
By the way, thank you for having him admit he shot Kate at the end. I needed that!
The Ducky/Gerald/Standard shift scene was great. I really thought Ari would try and kill Gerald, and instead he seemed to get a real kick out of it all.
Unless Director Shepherd gets a serious attitude adjustment, I’m afraid she’ll still be on my love-to-hate list. She’s just one of those characters who while I like her being on the show, I’d be avoiding like the plague if I had to work with her.
The Readers’ Digest Condensed Version of this is that I loved the episode. I want it back all new again, but I really loved the episode.

I thought the episode was kind of a let down. It reminded me of Reveille - started out strong but just kind of fizzled at the end. sigh. Things I liked The scene with Gibbs and Tony in the car after the pool scene - I love the way MH and MW work off of each other. We don't get enough of it. Ziva and Tony - I lke the way they play off of each other. Ziva is stronger than Kate was and gives as good as she gets. She grew on me this episode. Abby at the funeral with the jazz at the end. ;D Dislikes Jen and Gibbs. Yuck. It just doesn't work for me. I hate the whole boss/employee UST thing on general pricniples. And why must the woman director be shown at the office with her hair looking like she just climbed out of bed ( and wasn't sleeping while she was there ) and showing an amount of cleavage that just isn't appropriate for any office much less for a director of NCIS. You never saw the old director looking less than professional. But he was a male... The rushed climax. Seemed like a lot of time was spent on the setup and then they were out of time so had to rush through the Ari/Gibbs confrontation. All in all, I liked Ari Part I but Part II just didn't do it for me.

Did anyone of you know that Gibbs had a daughter with his first wife? And whatever happened to them? How were they killed? The way Gibbs was talking and Ziva saying she was sorry, I guess the wife and daughter were killed. If anyone knows what happened I'd really like to know. Don't worry, you haven't missed anything. We have always suspected that Gibbs may have had a child (Gibbs reaction to the scheming father in See No Evil probably gave us the biggest hint), but there have never been any specific details.

Ducky yelling at Gerald killed me. ANYWAY! Ducky's ringtone was a nice touch. Which reminds me.... If I'm not mistaken, Ducky's ringtone was 'Scotland the Brave'. *looks around* What? Nobody else listens to bagpipe music? Overall, I liked the episode, but I'm still lukewarm about the two new women... I think I'll warm up to Ziva faster - she's a stronger personality. Hmmm, maybe that's what rubs me the wrong way about Jenn. She doesn't seem to be a strong enough character to be Director, much less to be butting heads with Gibbs. I'm glad they finally took Ari down - I was getting tired of him always seeming to be one step ahead of Gibbs. Can't wait for the next ep!

I pretty much agree with Star on this. I thought the episode had no follow through. It was like waiting for a prime steak and getting a hamburger instead.
The whole Gibbs/Sheppard dynamic was a complete blech for me. Yet another woman brought in to be incompetent and show cleveage with totally constructed and fake UST .
I did like Ziva and Tony. I really think the Tony/Gibbs dynamic is the best thing on the show.

Actually it reminded me that I was going to look/buy a new ringtone for my cell. I'm tired of the 2 I can tolerate on my phone and have been thinking of downloading the Pink Panther tune. Sucks that it cost me 2 bucks and it was shorter than I'd have liked. But it's better than what I had, and it'll hold me over until I treat myself to a kit to make my own.

After having a few days to 'digest' the episode, so to speak, maybe the problem we're all having with it, the 'letdown', is that Ari delivered himself up so easily. Did he really think that Gibbs was just going to stand there and let Ari stage the 'suicide' ? Ari had been playing with him for at least two days after Kate's death...had Ari seen Gibbs act in anything less than a professional manner at any time? I can't really buy into the idea (sorry, DPB) that Ari let his 'I hate my daddy so I'm going to kill Gibbs' fixation overwhelm his ...I don't want to call it his 'good sense' but can't think of the words I want..Ari always had a backup plan, he respected Gibbs' abilities and never underestimated him...until now. IMHO, thats the problem with the ep..all of a sudden Ari gets stupid and we're supposed to buy into it. And having Ziva be the one who killed him, instead of Gibbs, doesn't really bother me...it's the whole 'I was a smart, inventive, conniving terrorist and now I'm suddenly dumber than a box of rocks' thing. (Sorry, didn't mean to start ranting and raving...just had to get that off my chest. )

Just wanted to add, the one of the only things I didn't like in this ep was when Gibbs and Shepard were in the car together. It just doesn't seem like Gibbs to make sexal references (same with Doppelganger too). JMO. (But the look on Gibbs face when she put her hand over his mouth was pretty funny.)

Although almost everything has already been said, I feel I have to get a few things out of my system... I don't know what to think about this episode! Bad things first (just my personal view). - Being director of NCIS is more than just one size too big a shoe for either Jenny Shepard or Loren Holly... - Ari turning from a smart, cultivated, hard to figure out, sympathetic bad guy into a dumb, egomaniac killer is (sorry) poor... - This whole switching cars thing was absolutely unnecessary. We learned that Gerald can't drive with a stick - so what... - The look on Gibbs face when he called Jen from in front the house? Totally OOC.... - The sequence when everybody told Gibbs why Ari is innocent and he was like "cut-out" infront of the image...Weird, to say the least....
But there were also some things that I really liked... - McGee visiting Kate in the morgue....hats off to Sean Murray for the acting! - Tony joining him....really nice. - Abby and McGee, so cute - I like Ziva. The character. Not sure about her being a part of the team though... - Abby playing jazz after the funeral - made my day... - And the best off all: "Golf - India - Bravo - Bravo - Sierra". That was sooooo Abby!
I still don't know whether I like this episode - have to watch it again....
