I gave it a '9'..lots of good interaction between everyone, especially Gibbs and Abby. The porn stuff was a bit much but I loved how Abby figured out how they pulled it off. Not too crazy about her new assistant...his mustache makes me think of "Snidely Whiplash" (a cartoon bad guy with a little pencil 'stash like Chip's ) but I think ol Chip is getting a crush on his boss. Gibbs and the Marine...what can I say..MH can say more with one look than some people with a page of dialogue.

Excellent ep, everyone at the top of their game, and, for once, the ending snap for the fourth act didn't give anything away! I gave it a 9.5 .....and you could dance to it, too!

Title: “ Tricks” Author: Kate Wallace Rating: T Category: Drabble Spoilers: Set after Hiatus, during Season 4 Disclaimer: I don’t own them, am making absolutely no money from this.
Written for the LJ "NCIS Flashfiction" Challenge "Halloween"
“Look, Daddy...I’m a bunny! See me hop!”
“Daddy, witches have to have round, pointy hats!”
“Daddy, look at all the candy I got!”
“I’m going to be a fairy princess this year and you can be my prince!”
“Boss...boss...” McGee’s quiet voice finally registered and Gibbs shook his head slightly. He turned back to the dead Marine on the floor, the racks of brightly colored Halloween costumes stretching behind him in the store back to being just part of the crime scene, not reminders of another man, living another life now lost to him forever.

In honor of the start of the new season, but originally written for the "NCIS Flashfic" Challenge: 'Photo'
Title:Never Parted
Author: Kate Wallace Category: Gen Pairing: None Rating: PG Warnings: None Spoilers: “Call to Silence” Disclaimer: I’m not making money nor do I own these characters. They belong to DPB, CBS, and Paramount.
“DiNozzo “
The man in question ignores the bellow...he’s heard it before and isn’t worried, by the sound, Gibbs is still down the hall by the front door. He continues his frantic search...he knows what he’s looking for is here somewhere, he saw it when he was here three weeks ago, just before the end.
“DiNozzo ” This just a few inches from his ear. Tony flinches and sits back on his heels, the rejects from his search scattered around him like fallen leaves. His boss, Special Agent Jethro Gibbs looms above him, scowling. Today, instead of his usual polo shirt and sport coat, he’s in his Blue Dress Baker uniform. Despite being in his best Zegna suit, Tony feels underdressed.
“We have to get going, Tony, or we’re going to be late.” Gibbs regards the mess around Tony with annoyance. “It’s okay,” his voice softens a little, “ he’ll understand.”
“I know it’s here somewhere, Gibbs, and I’m not going without it ” Tony turns back to the only place he hasn’t looked and smiles in triumph...he carefully lifts the picture off the floor from under the couch and places it into an envelope. Half an hour later, they are standing in front of a polished walnut coffin, the last resting place of Marine Corporal Ernie Yost. Tony takes the picture out and gently places it in Ernie’s hands.
“Here you go, Ernie” Tony says quietly, “ I found Dorothy for you. Hope you find her where you’re going.”
Together, Gibbs and Tony slowly lower the lid of the casket. They stand aside as the burial detail carefully unfolds the American flag to cover it. The detail lifts the casket and slowly makes their way out of the funeral home and over to the hearse. The two NCIS agents head across the parking lot toward their car so they can follow Ernie to the cemetery. Half-way to the car, Gibbs turns to look back at Tony. The younger agent is smiling slightly and.........singing? As he comes closer, Gibbs smiles back at him as he recognizes the tune....”When they begin the beguine..”
“Come on, Sinatra,” Gibbs says, laughing, as he gets behind the wheel. “Let’s get Ernie the rest of the way home.” Tony just smiles and keeps on singing.

In honor of the hot weather some of us have just had...
Fic: "On the Sunny Side of the Street" Title: On the sunny side of the street. Author: Kate Wallace Rating:G Genre: Humor Spoilers: None particularly, takes place during Season 3 Disclaimer: Everything belongs to CBS, DPB, Paramount, I’m just borrowing them for a time.
Written for the ncis_flashfic challenge "Heat"
It’s July. The height of summer in D.C. The third floor of the NCIS building at the Washington Navy Yard is a cool sanctuary on this hot, humid day. It’s the noon hour and the building is mostly deserted, which suits Gibbs just fine. This way, he can get through the mountain of paperwork on his desk without being disturbed. Tony, Ziva and McGee have scattered to other parts of the building on missions of their own. Gibbs fervently hopes that they will have settled whatever it is that they have been arguing about all morning before they return. His fiercest glares had merely reduced them to muttered whisperings and round-robin IM -ing, defiant glances going back and forth between the three cubicles. After a few minutes of the annoying IM chime, he was hoping they’d go back to the “Is not ” “Is too ” “Is not ” “Is too ” exchanges that had accompanied their entrance to the bullpen in the first place.
He initials the last report in the pile and leans back to rest for a second. The nights have been as hot as the days and he hasn’t been sleeping well. He’ll just shut his eyes for a few minutes, then get back to work. The shrill ringing of his desk phone jolts him upright and it takes him a few seconds to orient himself. “Gibbs” The snap in his voice could break glass.
“Sorry to bother you, sir.” Gibbs recognizes the voice of the newest member of the security team that patrols the interior of the Yard.
“What is it, Evanston?”
“Well, Agent Gibbs, your team is down here and well,...maybe you’d better come down and see.” The young man sounds hesitant and confused and Gibbs wonders whose bright idea it was to put the new guy on the interior patrol...the same clown who had hired Chip, perhaps? No matter, it’s time to go and see what his threesome have gotten themselves into this time.
When Gibbs steps out the door into the Yard a few minutes later, he feels like he’s entered a blast furnace. The asphalt of the parking lot is softening and the hand rails of the steps are far too hot to touch. He steps into the slight shadow of the building and scans the area for his team. A shout from off to his left draws his attention and he turns to look.
McGee, Tony and Ziva are standing together in a semi-circle on the concrete sidewalk that runs along the back of the Navy Museum. They are all looking at something on the ground, but whatever it is, it’s so small that Gibbs can’t see it from where he’s standing. He starts walking toward them when an unexpected voice from behind him stops him in his tracks.
“Oh, good, Gibbs” Abby is unbelieveably perky in the heat, dressed for comfort in a white cotton tank top and black shorts, her usual boots replaced by black platform sneakers. “You’re just in time.”
“In time for what ” He starts walking again as she catches up to him. “They’ve been arguing all morning and now Evanston has me down here because he’s not sure what they’re up to.”
“Well, Tony says he’s seen it happen and McGee says it’s just an urban myth.” Abby pulls out her parasol and opens it to shade herself from the sun. “Ziva thinks it’s just one of Tony’s jokes.”
“Seen WHAT happen, Abbs?” Gibbs is out of patience now, the heat and the lack of sleep leaving him with a very short fuse on his temper.
“This, Boss.” Tony is smiling, and pointing to something at his feet. McGee frowning and Ziva just looks confused.
Gibbs steps over to them and looks down. There on the sidewalk is an egg, frying. The white is jelled, the yolk is firming and, if Gibbs isn’t mistaken, the edges are slightly brown. Rendered speechless for once, he looks at Tony and McGee, a question on his face.
“See, Probie,” Tony says triumphantly, “I told you it wasn’t an urban myth It really does get hot enough to fry eggs on the sidewalk ”

Hi there. I've written a few stories and thought I'd try to post them here. My 'name' on this board is 'alethea' but my pen-name is 'Kate Wallace', hence the thread title.
Here's the first entry: Title: Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear Author: Kate Wallace Genre: Sap fic Rating: K+ Spoilers: Most of season 3 Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the characters or anything else mentioned in the story. It is a work of fiction. The characters belong to CBS, DPB, Paramount and others and no infringement is intended. (There’s an explanation at the end..if I do it here, it will give some of the plot away.) I have no idea where this came from, I blame it on too many pastel chocolate mini eggs.
This was absolutely the last straw. Tony pulled on his jacket and slammed out of his apartment, his anger at a full boil. It was Sunday, it was his birthday, for heaven’s sake, it was his day off, it was the first day off he’d had in a week and a half and NOW he gets a phone call to come into work . From McGee, no less, because apparently Gibbs was too busy to pick up the phone and call, and so he gets the notification from Probie . And they’re meeting in Abby’s lab, which probably means something to do with evidence being messed up and the way his life’s been going lately, it’s likely that HE messed it up somehow, though he’s not sure how, but Madame Director will undoubtedly find a way to pin the blame on him. It was probably Ziva, but he’s supposed to be supervising her, so if she screwed up then it’s his fault too. Maybe it’s time to move on, he knew this gig was too good to last and he’s tired and another year older and this year has been crap already and...he’s at work. And not quite sure how he got there and that’s so not a good sign but maybe an indication that he should find another line of work that didn’t stress him out so much and maybe his co-workers wouldn’t screw up and make him come in on his day off.
He’s marginally calmer in the elevator, but not by much, so that when he steps into Abby’s lab and hears Ziva ask “Why is it shaped like a horseshoe?” he’s ready to just turn around and walk out and keep on walking.
“Hi, Tony ” Abby is perky and bouncy and moving around whatever it is that Ziva asked about as though she doesn’t want him to see it. Ducky, Palmer, McGee and Gibbs are all standing there and looking at him as though they expect something. He looks around the lab...all the screens, Abby’s computer included, are displaying the same thing, and from where he’s standing all he can make out is that the background is green and there’s movement from the left side to the right but he can’t tell what it is. He turns back to look at the others and they’re all grinning from ear to ear, even Gibbs. He takes a few more steps into the lab and realizes that they all have Ohio State shirts on, including Abby. She’s got on a black tank top, Ziva’s is white and now he can see the familiar scarlet, gray on the rest. As he’s processing this and wondering if he’s wandered into some sort of alternate universe, he hears: “Happy Birthday, Tony ” And Abby steps aside to reveal the object of Ziva’s question..a horseshoe- shaped cake, the icing white and scarlet, the lettering gray. He’s closer to the screens now, and though the sound is low, he can hear the familiar tune from all those fall days at the football games and watch the band spelling out “Ohio” on the field. The images change and suddenly he’s watching himself on the screen, running, making a touchdown. He turns back to the others and all he can manage is “Guys.....” the anger and frustration gone in the space of a heartbeat.
Then there’s cake and ice cream, though, thankfully, the ice cream is just vanilla. He’s fond of his alma mater but not sure he’s ready for scarlet and gray ice cream. He can feel the anger and tension from the last weeks and months draining out of him as they stand around and watch the videos. Videos that Abby and McGee got from who-knows-where, Abby especially having sources and contacts that he’s pretty sure he doesn’t want to know about. There’s much explaining to Ziva about how the game works and why everyone is so excited about, as she puts it, “watching a word spelled.” He’s pretty sure she didn’t understand when he tried to explain about the honor involved in dotting the ‘I’ in “Ohio” or anything else about the half-time festivities. But, deep inside, he’s really touched that Abby and McGee went to all this trouble just for him and that Gibbs, Ducky, Ziva and Palmer showed up to watch and eat cake and listen to his stories.
Maybe this job isn’t so bad after all, he thinks as he sits in Abby’s chair with his feet propped up on her desk, working on his third piece of cake. Gibbs has wandered off, probably up to the bullpen to do paperwork. Ducky and the others are watching the video clip of the band and Ducky is talking about some obscure tribe in South America that has some complicated ritual involving walking around in specific patterns. Abby’s sitting on the bookshelf next to him with Bert, her farting hippo, watching.
“You going to stay, Tony?” It’s strange to see the “Ohio State” peeking out from under the edges of her lab coat. It’s deja vu but not, in some bizarre way. She’s staring at him intently and he knows somehow she’s figured out what he was thinking when he first came into the lab.
“Yeah, I think I’ll stick around for a while.”
“Good, because if would be awfully dull around here if you left.” She tosses Bert into Tony’s lap and walks over to one of her machines to check something. Tony puts his plate on the desk, wraps his arms around Bert, being careful not to squeeze him too tightly, and leans back in the chair. The last thing he remembers is the faint sound of the band, singing “Drive, drive on down the field...”
Author’s note: For those of you who aren’t familiar with Ohio State (more properly The Ohio State University), their colors are scarlet and gray, the football stadium is called “The Horseshoe” and the marching band is known for their half-time routine called “Script Ohio”, in which they spell out the word “Ohio” in cursive script. Being called upon to ‘dot’ the “i”in the formation is considered a high honor. (And no, I have no idea how they go about choosing the person who does it.) You can really get a black tank top with “Ohio State” on the front. There are several “Buckeye Corner” stores (the team nickname is “The Buckeyes”) in Columbus . Apparently, the shirt and jacket that Tony wore in “Deception” were purchased from the web site.

I think the drug thing went something like this: Werth wanted to get into the Marines, but had some physical problem, possibly blood related that prevented this. He started taking steroids and also used masking agents so that the steroids wouldn't show up in his system. Somehow he managed to keep getting his supply in Iraq. But I don't think Karen Sutherland was giving him any drugs that he wasn't aware of. When he got to the States, he got them from Orderly Jenkins, who apparently was supplying quite a few people. I hope this helps a little.

This is the kind of episode that made me want to watch NCIS in the first place (that and Mark Harmon and David McCallum, but eventually there has to be something for them to do ...). I loved this one from start to finish. Everyone was at the top of their game and did a wonderful job. That said, I thought they had Abby overreacting to Tony and Tim's injuries and I was glad when she apologized to Ziva toward the end. And then there's the mystery of how Gibbs' Marine Corp. medals got into Tony's drawer..? The NCIS ones, we know how they got there, but there's no reason that I can see that he should have the service ones...not to mention that if he does have them, why weren't there more boxes in the drawer? Gibbs was presumably wearing his own medals in "One Shot, One Kill" and he had more than just a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. But since it made for a nice ending, I'll let it go...this time. Loved Gibbs and Werth in the interrogation room..from Gunny to 'dad' in just a few seconds...and were there tears in his eyes when he stood up and said "At ease, son." ? MH deserves an Emmy nomination for his work on this series. (As do the rest of the cast...they do great work.) And at the end, when Gibbs is straightening Werth's uniform. The whole super-soldier plot-line was a slightly confusing..it tooke me three viewings (such a sacrifice! ;D ) to figure out that Sutherland and her company had a program like that but that they hadn't been using the drugs on Werth. Poor Tony, I hope his nose is better by the next episode. Have we had a fugitive since "UnSealed" ? I can't remember him doing his "Tommy Lee Jones" impersonation since then. And always having Gibbs' back...stepping on Vincents ear-piece (Bluetooth, whatever it was...) after Gibbs bumped into him and knocked it to the floor. And wanting McGee to punch him in his 'six pack', but then reconsidering when Ziva said she would. McGee's question: "Ziva, did you kill Houdini?" "It is possible, I do not remember all their names." The best so far this season!

Verrry interesting....is Jeanne really gone for good, or will she pop up later in the season? I think Ziva came on a little too strong at times, but she cares for Tony and was worried about him. Being subtle isn't something she does very well. (And I like her, so I'm not trying to slam her or anything.)
Tony seems to be coming back..he's back to his old tricks. Just what else besides nail-polish remover (to get the Super Glue off McGee's keyboard) does Gibbs have in his desk? Is he drinking as much coffee this season...I can't remember seeing him with a cup very much in the first two eps?
Abby, great as always. Guzzling Caf-Pows but scarfing salty chips to help retain water! And if Gibbs came and kissed me on the cheek, I'd love my job too!
Gibbs staring down Nelson the first time they go to the house and then tossing his badge to Ziva (?) when he's talking to Nicky's dad at the garage. And with the baby at the end..he understood why Nicky did what he did, even if he didn't approve of it.
Good episode, not first rate, but solid.

Thanks for the info! ;D
Not to change the subject (but I'll help Gibbs change out of his clothes anytime! ) but we'll be needing a new thread title soon. A suggestion: Special Agent Gibbs: WWGD?

"Burr-head" might have come from the super-short haircut he had in some of the pics I've seen. But I had no idea his sister Kristen had written a book! Tell all, please!
