INNOCENT
CHAPTER 1
Leroy Jethro Gibbs sat in the stands of the riding stadium with a coffee in hand. One of his exes had invited him here, for who knows what reason.
"Jethro you made it." She hugged him and sat down next to him with a coffee of her own.
He looked at the arena and sipped his coffee. " Why did you ask me here? I was under the impression that we werent speaking."
" I know....I....the reason I asked you here is...well watch the next rider then i will tell you.
He watched as a auburn haired teenager rode a tall grey mare into the arena to Jump. The mare tossed her head in excitement.
" I still dont understand.." Gibbs started to say but his Ex shushed him.
The mare sailed over the jumps like a ghost horse in the early morning mist. The girl looked determinedly ahead.
The mare rounded the far turn, her hooves hit the sand rythmically.
As her hooves hit the ground after a jump, the sand exploded. The Mare reared in fear, and took off across the arena.
When she reached the end she jumped the fence and continued running into the forest that surrounded the jumping arena.
"MAXI!" Gibbs' ex practically shrieked as she tried to push her way off of the aluminum stands. Gibbs was following calmly.
When the finally reached the ground he grabbed her arm and turned her around.
" Tell me what is going on NOW." He said sternly.
" That was my daughter Maxi.....Our.....daughter, her stepfather has been threatening us lately."
Gibbs stood in shock. " And you never bothered to tell me?"
She started to cry. " Look im sorry but right now I have to find....Oh my god!" She started to cry harder.
Gibbs looked in the direction she was looking.
At the edge of the woods where Maxi and the mare had disapeared, the mare was trotting back with blood on her perfectly groomed neck.
~ if u guys want more just let me know...this is kinda a pilot.
Gibbs had called in Agents Dinozo and Todd after he found explosive material by the jump that had scared the mare.
While he waited for them he talked to his ex Kendail ( i dont know his Exes names so i made one up).
" So...whats the pony's name?"
" Maxi likes to carve stuff...so she named her sawdust."
Gibbs shook his head and laughed. " Sounds like a good kid....we are going to get her back Kendail."
Kendail nodded. She was trying to keep strong for Maxi. She didnt want to loose someone else she loved.
Tony and Kate rolled up with McGee and the crime scene truck.
Kate started in with the arguing as soon as they got out of the truck.
" I dont drive to fast Kate....i just wanted to get here on time." Tony said irritated.
" Look can we be professional for once?" McGee spoke up.
Both gave him a death glare.
" Tony i want you over here getting sketches of how far this mini bomb blew its components. McGee i want you to Bag, tag, and take pictures. Kate is with me on the riding trail."
" Boss why are you taking her?" Tony sounded whiny.
" Cause she doesnt whine as much Donozo." He mutter as he shouldered a crime kit and walked off towards the forest with Kate.
Kendail watched in almost a shocklike state. everything felt like it was in slow motion.
" So whos the girl we are looking for?" Kate said as they trudged along the path looking for clues.
" According to the Ex....My daughter." Gibbs said as he walked.
Kate looked over at him with a dropped jaw. Then she giggled a little. He looked at her with a serious look.
" Oh....you are serious."
" Ya Kate, im serious." He bent down and traced his hand along some disturbed dirt.
" Is that tire tracks?" Kate took up her camera.
" Good job kate, take pictures and ill call Dinozo over to help. This just turned into a kidnapping."
When Gibbs and the team returned to the office he sat down and waited for his minions to tell him what was going on.
" The blood on the horse was partly the horse's and partly the girl's. Personaly i hate horses boss...they smell, and.."
" I dont care what you feel personally Tony." Gibbs said frustrated.
Tony and Kate exchanged looks.
Gibbs' phone rang, it was Abby in the lab. She wanted him to come so she could explain her findings.
As usual the music in the lab was blaring some gothic group. Abby was sliding from computer, to mass spec, to mircoscope on her lab chair.
" What do you got Abby?"
" What no caff caff?"
" Make a tab." He rubbed his eyebrow.
" Fair enough then." She put the microcscope on screen. " The chemical on the bandana found near the tire tracks has traces of chlorophorm.
" Isnt that oldschool?" Asked Kate slightly confused.
" Yea, you sure Abbs."Gibbs said.
" Sure is, but this is a newer formula, somebody has tweaked it. The kid is gunna be out for hours...days, possibly throw up." Abby said sadly.
Everyone was silent.
" Also, the tire treads belong to a ford bronco. The foot prints are from a new pair of men's Nike track runners." abby added.
" Thanks Abbs, we will get back to ya later." Gibbs said as he gave her shoulder a squeeze and left."
CHAPTER 2
The girl woke up in a dark room on her own. Her hands and feet were tied with ducktape. She looked around the room. It apeared to be in some kind of warehouse. She could smell the ocean.
The door on the side of the room opened.
"Wakie Wakie Maxi." the man sounded familiar. He walked over and pulled the tape off of her mouth.
" Scream all u want, no one will hear you."
She was too terified to scream. Her wrists bled from the tape cutting into them. " I Mommy." She hiccuped.
" You want your mom? STOP SNIVELING!" He said as he gave her a kick, causing her to cry out in pain. " Stay here, u try to escape and your precious mom will go be with your father."
He left the room, the door clicking as it locked.
Maxi sat her self up against the wall. She could feel her cell phone in her front pocket, she didnt know why her stepfather hadnt taken it. Unluckily her hands were behind her back. She looked around the room for something to rip the tape.
" I got good news and bad news gibbs." Abby said from her chair.
" Did i ever tell you, you look like regis from who wants to be a millionare in that chair abby?" Tony said with a grin.
" Really?"
Gibbs delivered a smack to the back of Tony's head. Tony gave him a hurt look." Whats the news Abby?"
Abby put the sample on screen. I found epithielials on the bandana and....fish scales." She made a face. " Hes doing somthing fishy."
Gibbs rolled his eyes. " Not now Abby." he strode out of the room.
" Hes really worried about this case huh Abbs?" Tony said to Abby.
" Of course he is, didnt u hear?"
" Hear what?" he leaned on the desk.
" The missing kid is his daughter." Abby said as she made sure Gibbs wasnt near.
Tony's eyes got wide. " He reproduced? man... i feel bad for the kids around that kid...a mini gibbs smacking mini people." He shuddered.
" Oh Tony...." Abby rolled her eyes and went back to work.
" According to my data boss, that scale came from one of these 3 warehouses." McGee said as he brought a satalite photo on the big screen.
Gibbs looked at it and pointed to one. " Shes there."
" How do you know boss?"
Gibbs gave him a look.
" Right...sorry."
" Tony get the truck!" Gibbs said as he got his coffee cup.
Maxi's stepfather came into the room. " Nighty night maxi." He said as he held up a bandana.
Maxi tried to scoot away. As he reached for her she kicked the bandana out of his hand, causing it to hit a puddle of water on the floor.
" HAVE IT YOUR WAY!" he walked out and slammed the door.
Maxi took her chance, she used a piece of broken pipe to cut the tape. Outside the door she could hear liquid being poured.
" I hope you like campfires Maxi!" He said with a maniac laugh.
At the same time Maxi was getting her cell out and dialing.
As Kendail was walking up to Gibbs her cell ringed. Gibbs stopped as he was getting in the truck when Kendail spoke.
" MAXI! WHERE ARE YOU HONEY!"
" Mommy! i cant breath, Jake locked me in a room! he set it on fire." She coughed.
" Its ok honey we're coming!" Gibbs practically shoved her in the truck.
" Abby i need you to run a trace on 555-0098 quick!" Gibbs said as he drove.
" Sure thing...shouldnt be hard to spot though. theres a fire in progress there. Here it is!" She gave him the coordinates.
he snapped his cell shut. and drove like a bat on caf-pow.
They drove up to the seaside wharehouse. the building was a blaze. Firefighters were attempting to put it out.
" MAXI!" Kendail Shrieked as Gibbs held her back.
" Ill get her!" He said as he threw off his jacket and ran inside.
Gibbs was in the building for what seemed like a lifetime before he apeared through the smoke, like a hero in an action movie. He was carrying the motionless body of a teenage girl.
" Help me." he coughed as he laid he on the pavement next to the truck.
She laid motionless, her lips a pale blue, her skin almost pure white.
" Oh God Gibbs..." Kandail collapsed into Tony's arms.
Gibbs started CPR.
" One....two....three...four...five" he breathed air into her. He was about to try again when a paramedic shoved him out of the way.
" LET US DO OUR JOB!" the man said as they started working on her.
Gibbs' exsistence slowed, like a movie that was in slomotion. even time had slowed.
The monitor showed no signs of life.
" Shes not trying!" the paramedic said frustrated as he grabbed the paddles. " CLEAR!"
He shocked......
" CLEAR!"

The man put the paddles back and ran a hand over his face.
" Time...Time of death...1:03 pm." He looked disheartened as he and his partner started packing up.
Gibbs' reality collapsed. He didnt hear Kendail scream. He didnt hear the fire sirens. He didnt hear McGee call his name as his knees hit the pavement. Kendail and Gibbs cried into eachothers arms. Non aware of the other, but dully comforted by the other's embrace.
The paramedics were getting ready to cover Maxi with a sheet when Gibbs stopped them.
" Just let us say goodbye." he said hoarce.
The medics nodded and stood back.
Gibbs sat next to Maxi on the stretched and picked her up into a hug, holding close the daughter he never knew.
" Im sorry Maxi. Im sorry i wasnt there for you for your life, your happiness, your sadness, your growing...I couldnt even be there for your death." He continued to hold her close, Kendail was still wailing into Tony's chest. Tony trying his best to comfort her.
" I gotta say goodby now sweetheart."
He heard a rasping noise, that sounded like a cough. he leaned back to look at Maxi's face.
Maxi burst into a coughing fit, gasping for air.
" MAXI!" Gibbs cried out and hugged her close.
Kendail looked up. " OH GOD MAX!" She went over to her daughter and started hugging and kissing her.
" Im ok mom...im....ok." She struggled to talk.
" We'll take it from here." the medics said as they took over.
" Boss theres a report of a car fitting the boyfriend's description heading out of town." McGee said from the truck cab.
" Ill take it from here too." Gibbs said as he pulled McGee out of the truck and drove off.
" Hes leaving without us?" Kate asked confused.
" Would u want to be in that truck, with gibbs, while hes on a revenge tangent."
" Good point...."
Leroy Jethro Gibbs Slammed the bleeding man into the seat in interrogation.
" HEY MAN I GOT RIGHTS! IM HURT AND NEED A DOCTOR! U CRASHED MY CAR!"
Gibbs stared at him like a tiger staring at its knowing prey. The man got quiet.
" You know why you are here. You hear about that girl yesterday, that was kidnapped. Almost was murdered by fire today?"
The man shook his head." Dont know nuthin about that."
Gibbs smirked. "We gotcha on it..the girl told us everything."
The man's eyes widened. " You mean she lived?....I...I im...IM INNOCENT!" The man yelled after Gibbs as Gibbs headed for the door.
" No...you not. Your a grown man that tried to kill a child. You were supposed to protect her from harm. Thats the oath we all took in the Marines...protect them right? You were in the marines...you dont deserve that title."
" SHE WAS THAT SWEETIE'S SPOILED BRAT! SHE NEEDED TO BE TAUGHT A LESSION!"
" No...No she wasnt. She was an angel....She was......Innocent."
