You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm looking forward to seeing a little of the team in their new assighnments. I still don't want it to drag on for too many episodes, because the team interaction has always been one of the strong points of the show, but it could be interesting.
Someone on a board that shall no longer be mentioned because they're mean there, said that Tony needs to learn what the N means in NCIS. I refrained from replying to that, because I don't want to get in trouble with the mods there and get a "warning," or be banned. But really, didn't they watch the first two seasons where Tony was always explaining what acronyms mean and other stuff to Kate?
Anyway, I thought that Tony would be bored to death, but then a little bunny started wiggling. I think that Tony could get past the "stigma" of being "the law" on the ship, and could almost be one of the boys. I see him playing basketball on deck (gotta check out the official website for the ship) and joking with the guys. Fratboy Tony could be out full-force and right at home. covering up....
Deep inside there's that seed of guilt he still feels about Jenny, but hopefully Gibbs will eventually point out to him that she gave him no choice and that he and Ziva might be dead or seriously wounded and that she's gone rogue before and ditched her escorts in Paris. Who knows what else she's done that they don't know. I don't think Gibbs will tell him that she killed the Frog, but he might.
The thing is, I guess that her death in a hail of bullets was supposed to be heroic. She was "protecting" Gibbs, and I guess we'll see some guilt and regret on Gibbs' part, but I think that's misplaced. We know he wasn't considering getting back together again, she must have hurt him deeply. He'll probably feel guilty that she was trying to protect him and that Franks didn't back her up the way he should have.
But if she was trying to protect him she did a poor job of it. By not telling anybody about what was going on, she put him in more danger. It was only by chance that Franks wasn't in the diner with her. Maybe if he was they could have killed all the guys, but what if both of them had been killed? There would be no one alive who could warn Gibbs that they had been compromised 10 years after the mission, that he was the target of an assassion. They could have made it much more dramatic and have Franks and Jenny lying dead, with the case number written in Jenny's blood as her last act. But the way it played out, it was pure luck that Gibbs was able to end the whole mess. This suggested scenario has nothing to do with the fact that I really don't like Franks and hope we've seen the last of him, which I doubt. I didn't bring Franks into this story, the writers did!
Hmmmm.... I wish I could work on plot bunnies today but I have to make a gazillion follow-up calls at work. I don't mind doing that, but I still have my regular work to do.

Longtime lurker, first post.
A few thoughts on the finale ...
Re Jenny's Death: Suicide by assassin (Is that an oxymoron)?? I felt it was a bit overdone, the abandoned cafe in the desert, taking out 4 assassins and going down in a blaze of gunfire. I believe that she chose her death and preferred that to the alternative posed by her disease.
Re Leon Vance: Don't like the character much. Maybe I'm just getting tired of the hard#@@ with a hidden agenda/chip on his or her shoulder who constantly interferes with the team's investigations character. Okay, I'll grant that he might get involved in the investigation of the death of the director. But, in general, doesn't the director (and I'll include Jenny in this) have better things to do than interfere with the investigations of the DC office team? Like direct NCIS? ... Oh and the toothpick. EEEWW! McGee, you don't know where that's been, don't put it in your mouth!!
Re the Team Splitting Up: I imagine the season 6 premiere continuing with the same scene that closed season 5. Gibbs looks at the files and sees they're for Tony, Ziva and McGee, and Vance says something along the lines of "You work for me now. And if you ever cross the line again, it'll be for real."
Re Franks remark that Jenny was protecting Gibbs: IMHO, yes, and no. If Jenny had done what she was supposed to in Paris 9 years ago, this wouldn't have happened. She was protecting Gibbs from the results of her own mistake. And Gibbs had to clean up her lose ends.

The toothpick was wrapped. It hadn't been anywhere else. Gibbs looks at the files and sees they're for Tony, Ziva and McGee I don't consider that very likely, not after the way Vance came down from on high with his proclamations.

Comments on Abby
people have been saying that abby's breakdown for the director didn't sit right with them and that it was worse than kate and that that didn't seem right
well the breakdown that abby had when kate died was far worse than simply shedding tears, she wasn't wearing make-up, her hair wasn't done, she was an emotional wreck ..... for the director she cried some .... her emotions when the director died were far more controlled than when kate died

I agree with that melbradford she had more control then ... with Kate it was harder on her to control her emotions

And for someone who's very caring, loving and emotional like Abby it's not at all OOC to cry when somebody she worked with and saw every day dies. Jeez, I cried and it's only television.

Kate and Abby had a deeper connection than Abby and Jenny, so I believe that she played it really well.

I can't stop thinking about that file Vance took from his own dossier. Don't they have all the files digitalized and aren't copies held at a personnel department or something? Then I found this link. So the Director of NCIS is the system manager, and "Files are protected by limited controlled access, safes, locked cabinets, and locked doors. Visitor control and security computer software measures (where applicable) are utilized."... so there might not be another copy.... I know, just rambling on..... it's going to be long, long days before the premiere of season 6....

I just got back from vacation, so this is the first chance I've had to respond. And I don't think I can post what I thought, because we're not allowed to swear here. Kidding, but I need to be more rested.

I thought that "Judgement Day" was a great episode and a great season finale. I think that writers had problems deciding whether to let Jenny be the Director or Gibbs's former love interest and so I didn't like that dynamic. I think that the new director could be a good foil for Gibbs and I think that it will be interesting to see when the Director's actions will come back to haunt him, because, he not only shredded up a document, but, he also covered up the truth behind Jenny's death. As far as breaking up the team, I think that at the very least that it's a great way to get longtime fans interested and guessing about next season and to get new or casual fans interested in "NCIS" which is something "Angel Of Death" completely failed at last season.

I have to disagree about new viewers after Angel of Death. I personally know 3 people and their significant others who started watching NCIS with Angel of Death due to me talking about it incessantly. They came back for Season 5 and are totally hooked.
Plus, there were more viewers in Season 5 than there were in previous seasons. Each season has brought in more and more viewers.

You did a great selling job, "Angel Of Death" was the weakest season finale that I've seen, because to me nothing happened. I think that Season 4 was a Season where the only episode that I'd watch again was "Cover Story."

i think season 4 was so bad to us because the things we liked about the show got over-shadowed by the whole frog storyline .... but the newer fans maybe see it differently yes??
and even if there is a digitized copy of that paper somewhere ..... i'm sure as the director of NCIS vance has the power to delete that too

Grace Period was one of the best episodes of the series for me. Did you buy the DVDs anyway? My vote for "weakest" season finale was Season 1. I like it as an episode but not as a season ender.
