It's always fascinating to read the different reasons why someone loves or hates a particular episode. We're all watching the same show but each of us takes something different away from it. For me, I hated this one - but then Call of Silence is one of my least favorite episodes. (Yes gasp!) I don't like the saccarine melodromatics or watching the writers clumsily try to pull at my heart strings. I DO have a heart but think the ep would have been so much better if sprinkled with a large dose of subtlty. I was so disappointed in Bob Newhart's role - what a waste. While the slideshow at the end looked impressive on the big screen, a scrapbook of casefile memories that he could flick through perhaps would have been a better gesture. Hopefully next week's ep will have the ingredients that I LIKE in an NCIS ep

I liked the episode a lot, and I had no idea who Bob Newhart was ( I still don't ). I don't have a relative that has Alzheimer's disease, but I think it was nice that they tried to remind Dr Magnus of who he was and what he had accomplished in his life. What I kept from that scene was that they cared enough to do that, even if in the end he probably wouldn't remember it. Nice song too.
And it's not that bad if the producers or the writers cast people to get more viewers IMO. They're in show-biz, which by definition is a business, not a charity ;D And, since the ratings are constantly going up, it looks like they are doing a pretty good job at it. As long as they don't forget what this show is about, I am fine with it.

I mean, it's not that bad trying to make the viewers' number rise. It is the one thing that ensures that the show will move to the next season and that's why I like it when the numbers rise.

I really enjoyed this episode it was quite moving, though not in the same league as 'Call of silence' that episode was really really good! I thought that Gibbs dealt with the young man and his father very well, I especially liked how he went with the lad to sign up just to be there for him.

I think that the writers did a good job of handling two heavy issues even though it wasn't one of those episodes that I would rewatch.
