First episode of this show I've outright hated, I knew as soon as by about the 20 minute mark that it was all a giant rip off of the Taking of Pelham 123. As soon as they said that former French commandos had stolen a nuke and Sam kept saying 'how it just didn't make sense CT operatives stealing a nuke!" for about the 4th time.

I enjoyed it as always, could really care less if it was a rip-off from some other stuff or not, I still love it and the cast performed their roles well, so I'm not complaining.
What really matters to me is to see the characters growing and their bond and relationship with each other growing, and I saw that in this episode, so to me, it was perfect.
Yeah yeah, the mechanics of the story can be shredded and debated, all the technicalities and stuff, but for me, the character stories outweighs all that, and the writers delivered where it mattered to me.
Anyways, for me personally, it was a great episode.

*lol* I think it's one of my favorites. I've not seen the Pelham movie, so there was no comparison for me. And I agree with Belinda. To me, it's all about the characters. The plot is just a foil to show them off in my book. Speaking of books, I'm a writer and I have a book on plot that states there are only a few plot lines -- I'm thinking it said 4 or 6. The goal of the writer is to take that plot and make it their own. Not everyone is successful. Like I said, I haven't seen the movie, so it was all new to me. And I only watch NCIS, NCIS:LA ,Hawaii 5-O, Leverage and Rizzoli & Isles. I loved the Deeks/Kensi interaction, Sam/Callen and even Eric/Nell. Hetty is always a treat! Can't wait till next week. I'm gonna worry about Deeks all weekend.

Well I havent seen the original taking of Pelham 123 yet so I don't know how that differs from the remake that just came out. The remake featured an excon/disgraced former wall street guy that used an act of terrorism to short stocks and make millions. As soon as they revealed that a disgraced wall street guy had taken a nuke I knew that's the plot they were using. So most of my hatred comes from the fact that the team didn't think of it, had they done this plot on NCIS, Tony would have course pointed out the movie reference, both paying homage to the inspiration for the plot and providing a narrative means for the team to figure it out.
Also the Kensi deeks scenes kinda annoyed me and I've never cared much for the Sam/G dynamic. Also I'm annoyed that theres been no explanation for why Nate disappeared back into the either from whence he came.

That's true. Tony would have noticed the likeness to the movie and given them a play by play as to how it went down in the movie. However, I think one of the biggest points Shane's been trying to make is the DIFFERENCES between these two shows and their characters. I really can't see any of the 4 agents watching many movies. And it would seem out of character - to me - for one of them to bring up a movie plot in comparison to whatever they're working on. I could see Eric doing it. And Hetty. As a matter of fact, she's the one I would expect to hear it from. Along with mentioning the fact that she knew the author of the original book or the director/one of the actors from the original movie. Hetty knows everyone/everything! As you know, the G/S and K/D moments are what I look forward to. The plot/storyline is really secondary to me. I love the humor and the interaction between these characters. But I DO agree about Nate. Didn't his cover get blown at the prison? And didn't they get all the info they needed from the prison anyway? So where is Nate NOW? Altho I wouldn't mind if they keep his whereabouts secret if that means he's gonna pop up in a new case as a guest star again. I think I'd even like that. I'd just like to KNOW that's what's happening. I'd like it even better if G or Kensi would ask Hetty where he is - and Hetty would say: He's working. I'm sure you'll be seeing him again... I also think it's time for a Renko guest app. We haven't seen him yet this year, have we?

I agree with jo that I can't see these characters really pop out a movie reference except maybe Deeks. But the thing is that they ARE different characters with different personalities, so the standard quirk for one show is not the same as the other. They simply react differently, it's what I think that makes them unique and different from the original show. For me, the relationship and dynamics of the characters have always been the highlight for me, so these scenes never annoy me, I rather sit there and watch just scenes of the characters bickering and interacting than some well-oiled story-plot. It's the characters that are the center of the story that makes NCIS such an unique crime drama show. They aren't just characters that are like card-board cut-outs that somehow serves the plot of a story, but rather, the story serves to advance the connections of these characters. So for me, any chance for scenes of Deeks/Kensi or Callen/Sam are great for me to watch. His cover was never blown at the prison, remember, Sam "stabbed" him so that he could keep his cover. The operation they had to track the terrorist that broke out is still in play, so it would not be wrong to assume that Nate is still working on that operation to get to that guy. Yes, it would be nice for them to drop a line about where Nate is, but I don't mind that they don't, sometimes it just isn't called for in a storyline. Anyways, be patient, maybe they will say something about Nate in the future. We can't always expect the writers to always work to put in Nate's whereabouts, sometimes it just wouldn't work in a storyline. *sighs* My dear Renko... No, we have not seen Renko this year, but I believe it's because the actor who plays Mike Renko, Brian Avers, is doing a theater tour and busy with that so he has not been able to be available for filming.
