There were a lot of inconsistencies in the what-ifs and stuff but the way I saw it was that this was all in Gibbs' head, it's influenced by his feelings and guilt, so if it was inconsistent, then it's because Gibbs' own logic isn't all right - I kinda saw it as pointing the errors in Gibbs' feelings and decisions.
There were obviously a few things they put in for the sake of name-dropping, like Kelly or Tiva, but they weren't really that big of a deal.
As for Gibbs calling Shannon as one of "his girls" - I really saw nothing wrong with that, I didn't see how it's creepy or patriarchal to say that, and I didn't see how it was reflecting on Shannon as his "property" or "child" - I often refer to my Dad and my brother as "my boys" so I guess to me, I didn't see some other meaning behind it than just a term of endearment and affection.

One point you brought up, c, was Mom's reference about Dad changing the bed sheets. I don't remember ever hearing about how Gibbs' mom died, but from this statement I get the impression she was ill. Cancer, maybe. Something that confined her to bed and made her to weak to do anything for herself. Her statement about leaving was the best thing she'd done seemed to me a euphemism for dying. Then that makes me like Gibbs even less. He is angry at his mother for abandoning him - but she didn't walk out the door, she DIED of CANCER. Yes, that's right Gibbs, it is all about you.

this epi confused me to no end. I was WTF-ing through out the whole epi LOL so many things made no sense at all. Also have to agree with celestial about Gibbs mom being a red head. That was just disturbing one thing that I laughed at was Abby and McGee. as much as I love them to no end I just don't see them being a couple. as for McGee and his promotion. We know he likes the action and catching the bad guys. He was bored in S6 in the basement. But it was misplaced in this epi. They could have had saved it for another epi. Since this was packed for a two hour movie! I'm just glad this is over and we can go back to our regular cases even if I'm not looking forward to see Wendy next week

Well at least this episode has elicited more reaction than most of the episodes this season. Frankly I wasn't a fan, seemed disjointed and fractured to me. Please just give Gibbs his halo and be done with it. OH and I was so thinking Daniel in the Diner with Oma.... It's been done to death in many tropes on near death. I just don't think it was done well here. Everyone has an opinion and they are all welcome here. As Buckaroo Banzai said "Don't be mean".

Well the more I read the more my opinion of this episode slides. It was mention in passing that Gibbs mom was dead .I think it was 1st episode where we see Gibbs dad. There was a line that Jackson and Ann had a rocky marriage before she died, but how she died was never explained . And it wasn't unusual in rural America 50's thru 70's for hospice care of dying family member to be done at home mostly by the family. So that much I can let them slide. Yeah his Mom being a red head was a sick, cheap, joke and insult to fans and making her a waitress ( a la Oma in the sg 1 coffee shop) for me was added insult. One wonders are the NCIS writers and producers who green lighted this mess if they are tried and suffering boredom from working on this long running show and need to be fired and replaced? After watching this episode twice last night I was really disappointed . First off I think if it so so to lousy episode it is easier to take if there's no hype and expections surrounding the episode. But with Mark hitting the late night talk shows, the TV guide cover story your expecting a episode that will make peeps top 10 lists instead we get this blah been there done that episode. Also I didn't like the constant references to when this clique plot was done better "what are you the ghost of NCIS pasted?" etc.... . This was a disappointment for a hyped 200th episode . BTW there a bit of easter egg. If you watch Gibbs life flashing before his eyes after the gunshot in slow motion (atleast with my tivo with CC on) you can read the lines of dialog you hear as mummers at full speed and you see a flash or two of Pacci

Bullet points! And I've got some mighty unpopular opinions. This may well be the last time I post on Special Ops ;D Love your list. Best laugh I've had in a while. OH and I was so thinking Daniel in the Diner with Oma.... It's been done to death in many tropes on near death. I just don't think it was done well here. Only difference between this and the Daniel episode was that Stargate didn't feel the need to whack us over the head with the obvious to get the point across. Yeah, we got it. If I'm disappointed it's only that I expected so much more from the writers. **** So far the assumption has been that Tony & Kate were a couple, however I think the baby is only ever referred to as Kate's baby ('she' called it Kelly, not 'they'). Could it be that Tony was just her birthing partner? I've only watched the epi once so I may have missed something.**** BTW I loved Stargate's 200th episode.

I agree no banging of the head on Stargate The 200th episode was a total hoot, very tongue planted firmly in cheek. Here it was pretensions masquerading as meaning, not in the same league

OMG Director Shepard was in it!!!! yayyyyy. I was so shocked to see the Tony and Kate being parents thing.... the baby girl. I wrote a fanfiction based on that before. I was like... awesome!!! Then seeing Shannon and Kelly, Mike Franks, Mark Harmon's son Sean, Papa Gibbs.... and Ari. Wowwwww, this made my day better than what it is. I have had a very bad day, one I wish would never have happened. Israeli Princess

No No No you loopy.....( finish the Monty python quote yourselves LOL) the episode of sg 1 I'm referring to is season 8 episode 18 called "threads". I wasn't in love with the 200th episode of SG 1 I referred to it as "Worm hole excrement part Du" lol I didn't care for part one so I was not a fan of part 2. But at least the sg1 200th episode was trying to be funny and wacky by design and succeed for the most part. Ncis 200 miss the mark . As far as Gibbs justifying his killing of Hernandez in cold blood, it's a very stock Bellisario production company plot line going back to Magnum PI days. In the season 3 opener Magnum kills the Russian KGB colonel Ivan in cold blood at the end of "did you see the sun rise " . In the 1980's it was shocking and cbs got boat loads of hate mail over Magnum gunning down the KGB col. who killed Mack and kidnapped , torched and druged up Magnum, Rick and TC. I guess peeps thought a former Navy Seal who's P.I. was going to add KGB Col. Ivan to his Hanukkah card list? As it worked out in the long run more people like Magnum's old testament justice because there was zero effect in the ratings. I would have thought for the 200th episode of NCIS they would have come up with at least a entertaining script like 150th episode where we meet Tony's dad, sadly no we got this muddled ,derivative, we seen before done way better 200th episode.

I guess we can just be thankful that the 200th wasn't a musical ep. When they roll that one out we will KNOW that the writers have given up and run out of puff.

The Buffy musical episode was great, It helps if you have good writers which NCIS doesn't. The problem with episodes like NCIS 200 is the hype, It's hyped to death and then doesn't fulfill expectations, It is what it is, a typical episode from what has become a very mundane show.

Watched again and enjoyed it even more, I don't know what expectations everyone else was having but it met mine just fine and I found it to be quite meaningful.

Still mulling over the Kate hospital scene. I think it would have been better to have some Gibbs/Ari dialogue than the bizarro Kate rehashed footage. Why hire Rudolph and give him no lines?
