i've locked the thread containing the Rules - and opened this thread for any questions or comments you might have about posting your fics.
i'm going to try and post the ratings and some of the terms we use regarding fan fiction.

Yes, I just re-read the rules thing. erm, y'know, in case I decide to... er... share... at some point. In case I might be working on something. Which I might be. Or then again I might not. But you never know.
I only have one question. Well I may have two questions at some point but at the moment I'm just sticking with one.
What is NC17, please?? I mean it took me just over a month to figure out that shipping had nothing to do with boats (unless obviously it involves Gibbs, but I guess that's just a given) - and I can't go through all that brain work trying to figure stuff out again!!!
Thank you!

NC-17, also known as MA is really explicit language and sex. It's not allowed on fanfiction.net, so if you read an M rated fanfic on there, imagine that taken up a notch. I don't even remember hearing about a movie rated NC-17.
Another question - crossover ship fics, for example pairing Ducky with Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote. Do those go in the ship section or are they okay in the regular fanfiction?

I want to thank Meg for do my work for me. RATINGS SYSTEM [/B] This is the rating system used at FanFiction.net. Originally, fan fiction was rated the same way as movies are rated - the equivalent movie rating is shown in parentheses at the end of each rating. B - Intended for preschool level and younger children between the ages of 1 and 4. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, adult themes, and ideas very young children cannot comprehend. K - Intended for general audience 5 years and older. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes. (Equivalent to a G in MPAA) K+ - Suitable for more mature childen, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes. (Equivalent to PG in MPAA) T - Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes. (Equivalent to PG-13 in MPAA) M - Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language. (Equivalent to R in MPAA) MA - Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes. (Equivalent to NC-17 in MPAA) It sounds like to be rated at an M/R for violence alone, things have to be pretty extreme. The series itself would be rated a PG-13/T for the most part. Meg: if your story is totally centered around the romance - then i'd put it in the Ship Zone. if the romance is only incidental to the actual story itself, i don't see why it couldn't go in Case Files. if anyone disagrees, let me know.

This isn't to do with the rules exactly, but what is with the "Five Things That Never Happened" trend? I keep running across it everywhere I go. Does anyone know how this started?

Meg, I'm running a check on that - I'd never heard of it.
So far, this is what I've found: "Five Things that Never Happened" challenge. The premise: to write five short AUs about one character (or more) and string them together in a single story.
What are AUs? LOL. I'm gonna see if I can find anything else about this...

AU's are alternate universe stories. Like making Tony a lawyer or something like that. I consider slash AU's. I just don't see the "subtext" some people see.

AUs can also be more sutble and just change one storyline. For example, saying Kate didn't die on Twilight, what if glass wasn't bullet-proof on One Shot, One Kill, etc.
Thanks, Jo. Sounds like an interesting premise.

One suggestion for this section. Since so many stories have been prompted by Grace Period, and I know episode-related fics are popular, what about one thread where we can post links to episode-related stories?

Were you thinking just one thread for ALL episode-related stories? [Such as a thread titled: Episode-Related Stories] Or a thread for each episode? [Such as: Grace Period Fics, Yankee White Fics, etc.] Let me know. And do the rest of our writers have an opinion on this?

Probably one thread for all episode fics, and then just post links rather than entire stories.

Are we allowed to post links to other sites where our stories are featured e.g. fanfiction.net and give the link for that particular story.
And, I have one series which isn't ship centered but it does include them, can I still post it here. I'm not sure becuase I'm not sure how strong the shippyness is within my fics? if that makes sense at all!
Thanks Steph

You can open your own thread in the Case Files and then post links to ff.net (most our authors do). And put links for the shippy ones in the respective fiction thread ( Tony/Ziva, McGee/Abby etc.) in the Shipper Zone just to be sure. Great to have a new writer here!

cool I'll do that and post a link to my main series fic, I don't know whether its counted as shippy or not so I'll post it here. If ANYONE has a problem with it I will immeadiatly remove the link and repost where appropriate. The main theme of this fic is not shippyness though so thats why I'm not sure lol! so confused but anyways I'll go and link myself up! thanks so much for the info! XXX Steph
